Black Friday can cause serious workplace injuries

Posted on November 22nd, 2011 No Comments

Black Friday is a day of frenzy which revolves around massive discounts in most retail stores. The day after Thanksgiving gets it’s name for the insane amount of people who wait hours in front of stores to obtain one-day only sales on many coveted items for the holiday season.

Employees of these stores who are scheduled to work on Black Friday need to be aware of their surroundings at all times. There have been numerous reports of employees being injured due to unruly crowds or customers simply not paying attention to anything around them and focusing only on the sale items. It is up to the employees to constantly be cautious of where they are and what the people around them are doing.

Creating barricades and lines for customers will allow for an area of the store to be organized. Maintaining constant contact with other employees is important when dealing with in-store situations that may require a manager’s assistance. Also, informing the customers of the layout of the store with different sales could decrease the amount of chaos once inside.

When workplace accidents do occur, the employee who was injured deserves to be compensated. If you have been injured in a workplace accident, please contact the Fayetteville workplace injury lawyers of Scudder & Hedrick, PLLC, by calling 910-488-1600 today.

Workers’ compensation denied for man who lost an eye

Posted on November 14th, 2011 No Comments

A workers’ compensation claim has been rejected for a man who lost his eye at work. The claim was denied solely on the fact that the man had ignored a positive work order to stop doing the activity that caused the injury.

The man’s supervisor urged him to discontinue what he was doing but he chose to pay no attention to his advice. The action he chose to continue was pounding a bowling ball with a sledgehammer, which had no relation to his responsibilities as an employee. He struck the ball twice, with the second time causing a piece of the ball to fly into his eye. The damage caused the eye to be removed.

Workers’ compensation will not be granted to this individual due to the fact that he was not injured during the reach of his employment.

There are multiple injuries that happen at work where employees are entitled to workers’ compensation. If you need assistance with a workers’ compensation claim, please contact the Fayetteville workers’ compensation lawyers of Scudder & Hedrick, PLLC, by calling 910-488-1600 today.
