Workers’ compensation to be given to tornado survivor in the end

Posted on November 2nd, 2011 No Comments

The social worker who heroically risked his life to try to save others’ during the treacherous Joplin tornado has been given workers’ compensation after all.

The 51-year-old was initially denied workers’ compensation from his insurance company and was stuck with medical bills that totaled over $2.5 million because of his severe injuries. Outrage from the community as well as lawmakers began once his claim was denied.

This last week, the social worker received another call from the insurance company saying that they have decided to re-open his case and are willing to pay him workers’ compensation after all. The insurance company stated that it was a justified claim after all because he was working while he received his injuries on that horrific day.

Family and friends of the man are thrilled for him and hope that the benefits can help him get his life back on track.
