Robberies largely linked to workplace deaths

Posted on January 31st, 2012 No Comments

A study relating to workplace deaths has shown that most homicides that occur at work are not performed by co-workers, like once previously thought.

Instead, workplace fatalities are largely linked to robberies. The National Council on Compensation Inc. was behind the study that determined the important connection between robberies and workplace deaths. Also, homicides make up 11 percent of all fatalities that occur while at work.

Customers at businesses have become increasingly more violent over the year, and are largely responsible for the incline in homicides by work contacts. Customers are considered to be a part of the contacts category, as well as co-workers.

Three employees were immediately killed and an injured employee was taken by helicopter in critical condition.

The suspect fled from his workplace and returned to his home where he turned the gun on himself. Emergency respondents found him and took him to the hospital where he is said to be in an extremely serious condition. Workers’ compensation fraud charged in Oklahoma

Posted on January 16th, 2012 No Comments

Two Tulsa, Oklahoma residents have been charged with workers’ compensation fraud after a false claim was filed in 2010.

The claim was filed by a 38-year-old maintenance man who sought financial help after being injured while on the job. In reality, the man, although injured on the grounds of the complex that he worked at, was not hurt on the job. The manager of the apartment complex, a 26-year-old woman, felt sorry for the man and urged him to state that he was at work  so that he could receive workers’ compensation benefits.

The manager gave the man all the forms he would need and helped him file the workers’ compensation claim. Since October 2010, the man has received approximately $6,700 through workers’ compensation benefits due to the illegal filing.

Visa Prepaid Card for workers’ compensation just announced

Posted on January 11th, 2012 No Comments

With the loss of almost 500 United States Post Offices throughout the nation, the mail delivery system will no longer be as fast as it once was.

Workers’ compensation checks may not reach their beneficiaries on the same days they once did with the slower mail system. A new prepaid Visa designed specifically for workers’ compensation benefits will allow for the payments to continue to be delivered on time. This card, called the InsurCard Visa Prepaid Card, enables the workers’ compensation payments to be deposited electronically onto the card.

This card can be used anywhere that Visa cards are accepted. By utilizing this card, insurers can reduce their check issuance amounts by up to 85 percent.

Research indicates aging workers not as hazardous to workers’ compensation

Posted on January 5th, 2012 No Comments

New research conducted by National Council on Compensation Insurance, NCCI, shows that the aging workforce is not as hazardous to workers’ compensation as previously thought.

The research shows that young employees do not have a high injury rate and the frequency of workers’ compensation claims being filed has decreased among all age groups, closing the age gap.

This information shows that insurers may not lose costs like they thought. Workplaces across the country are becoming increasingly safer in all different fields.
